Ever thought about visualizing your network connections in 3D environment? Try Wandering IPs - it monitors TCP connections, identifies remote IP addresses and then determines their geographic coordinates.
Features: Wandering IPs is IP geo-location software. When in operation, it detects the TCP connections made by your machine. These are the incoming as well as outgoing connections. Once the TCP addresses are detected the utility tries to determine the location of the IP address. It not only determines the end points but also intermediate IP addresses. If you were to then determine the route taken for the packets for that particular connection, that can be tracked geographically too. These points are then projected on a 3D globe and you are able to see the geographical route taken by the packets of a particular connection.
Program makes use of variation of MaxMind GeoLite database which contains over 4,000,000 IP-to-location records. This database is updated frequently so that you have more or less current information. The 3D map used is a textured map. It can be integrated into your desktop environment. GeoLiteCity Database version 4.0887 (updated 01-Apr-2009) is in use currently.
Overall: An interesting application but is of peripheral value really speaking.
